Ox

The Ox is the steady worker of the Chinese zodiac. Tradition associates it with patience, reliability and the quiet strength that finishes what it starts.

Personality

The Ox is described as calm, methodical and loyal. It prefers proven paths to sudden experiments and earns trust by doing what it says it will do. Its shadow side is stubbornness: once the Ox has chosen a direction, changing course can feel like defeat.

Love and relationships

The Ox shows affection through dependability rather than grand gestures. Tradition pairs it well with the Rat, and with the Snake and Rooster, who value its steadiness.

Work and everyday life

Symbolically the Ox fits long projects that reward endurance: building, farming, craftsmanship and any role where consistency matters more than speed. Its invitation is to leave room for rest and for other people's ways of doing things.

Symbolism

The Ox belongs to the branch 丑 and the hours 01:00–03:00, the deepest part of the night before work begins. In the Great Race it was the strongest swimmer and came second, carrying the Rat across the river.
