Chinese Zodiac Compatibility

Traditional Chinese astrology reads compatibility from the relations of the Earthly Branches: combinations such as harmonies and trines, and tensions such as clashes, harms and punishments. Pick two signs to see every relation tradition names for the pair.

Compare by birth dates

Enter two dates of birth to find both signs, including the element of each birth year. The dates are used only for this calculation and are not stored.

Traditional Chinese astrology describes the compatibility of two signs through the relations of their Earthly Branches. Explore how tradition sees any pair of the twelve animals, or compare two people by their dates of birth.

How it works

Every animal belongs to one Earthly Branch. Following the common 子平 tradition, we look at seven families of relations between branches: the Six Harmonies (六合), Three Harmonies (三合) and Seasonal Combinations (三会) are combinations; the Clash (冲), Harm (害), Destruction (破) and Punishment (刑) are tensions. One pair can have several of them at once, and they do not cancel each other: the Snake and the Monkey are a harmony, a destruction and part of a punishment all together.

Beside the branch relation we show how the elements of the two branches meet in the generating and controlling cycles. When you compare by birth dates, the element of each birth year is added.

We do not turn this into a percentage. Tradition describes harmony and tension; it does not measure them, and a number would pretend to a precision it does not have.
