Dragon and Rooster

合 Six Harmonies

The Six Harmonies (六合, liù hé) pair each branch with exactly one partner. Tradition sees these pairs as complementary: what one brings, the other receives, and together they form a quiet, stable bond.

What the tradition says

Six Harmony pairs are described as natural allies. Their strengths are different rather than the same, which is why the relationship is pictured as balanced instead of competitive. Classical texts list the pairs Rat–Ox, Tiger–Pig, Rabbit–Dog, Dragon–Rooster, Snake–Monkey and Horse–Goat.

Questions for reflection

  • Where do your differences complement each other in everyday life?
  • How do you make room for the one who gives more quietly?
  • What would you build together that neither of you would build alone?

Elements of the branches

Earth of the Dragon feeds Metal of the Rooster in the generating cycle.

These traditional associations offer a starting point for reflection, not a definitive measure of how a relationship will go. Communication, trust and shared values matter far more than any pair of animals.

No percentage, no score: tradition describes harmony and tension, it does not measure them.
