The Pig closes the twelve-year cycle. Tradition associates it with generosity, honesty and a warm enjoyment of life.
Personality
The Pig is described as good-hearted, tolerant and easy-going. It enjoys good food, good company and comfort, and it gives others the benefit of the doubt. Its shadow side is naivety and a tendency to indulge.
Love and relationships
In love the Pig is pictured as affectionate and sincere, happiest in a peaceful home. Tradition pairs it well with the Tiger, and with the Rabbit and Goat.
Work and everyday life
Symbolically the Pig fits work where kindness and patience count: hospitality, care, crafts, community roles. Its reflection is protecting its own time and resources while giving to others.
Symbolism
The Pig belongs to the branch 亥 and the hours 21:00–23:00. In the Great Race it stopped to eat and take a nap and came last, twelfth.
Five variants
Over the 60-year cycle each animal meets each element once. The stem of the year decides which variant it is.

Exact dates from Chinese New Year. Anyone born in January or early February may belong to the previous animal.
